Guan Chuan Street

The room

One floor, 1 100 square feet, and a week written for people who work nearby. Come and see it in daylight before you decide on a pack.

The room is a single rectangle with a 4.2-metre ceiling, enough for a hanging knee raise and for the air to move on a still afternoon. Four lifting stations sit in a line, each with a platform, a rack and a bar that stays on that station. Lighting is even and a little warmer than a warehouse, which is a choice: we want to see positions, not run a nightclub. Mechanical ventilation is set for Singapore humidity rather than for a temperate winter. Two showers and a small changing alcove sit behind a partition at the far wall. The floor holds a Foundations group of six plus the floor team without anyone waiting for a bar.

We opened in 2026 and we have kept the layout simple on purpose. If you can see the door, you can see the clock. Bags go on the bench by the entrance. Phones stay in the bag unless you are waiting on a dependant. The music stays low enough that a coach can talk at a normal volume from the middle of the room.

Equipment

  • Four stations with Olympic bars and calibrated plates, including small change plates for slow progressions.
  • Adjustable dumbbells from 2 kg to 40 kg, kept in the same pair of rows so a 07:30 group can find them in the dark.
  • Two rowing machines and one air bike, used for short pieces rather than hour-long tests.
  • A 12-metre sled lane along the window wall, with turf that we dry after wet shoes.
  • Rings and a suspension set on the far uprights, used for rows, holds and the occasional pull-up progression.
  • Mats, boxes and low benches that move. We do not run a forest of machines.
  • Dowels, bands and a few kettlebells for warm-ups and for Return to Load sessions.
  • A short set of crash mats for floor work and for teaching a roll when someone wants one.

Book a slot through us by e-mail or by phone. Groups are held at six. If you cannot come, we ask for twelve hours’ notice so the space can go to someone on the waiting list. Later than that, the session comes off the pack. One-to-one hours follow the same notice. If the room is already full at the time you want, we will offer the next slot rather than squeeze a seventh person onto the floor.

Getting here

We are on Guan Chuan Street, about a four-minute walk from Tiong Bahru MRT (EW17). Come out towards the market side, walk along Tiong Bahru Road, then turn onto Guan Chuan. The entrance is at street level, under a simple sign, and the room is on the second floor up a single flight of stairs. There is a handrail. There is not a lift, which we say plainly so you can plan.

Buses along Tiong Bahru Road and Kampong Bahru Road stop within a few minutes’ walk; the 5, 16, 33, 63 and 123 are the ones people mention most. Street parking nearby is limited and often full by mid-morning. If you drive, give yourself time or come by MRT. The door is on the street, not through a mall. Ring if the inner door is on the latch before 07:00; someone from the floor team will come down.

What to bring / what we keep here

What to bring

  • Shoes you can squat in. Flat and stable is more useful than cushioned road foam.
  • A bottle. The taps are fine; we do not run a branded bar.
  • A small towel if you want one on the bar. We have a stack if you forget.
  • Any brace or tape you already use, plus the clinician’s note if we should read it.

What we keep here

  • Chalk, spare hair ties, and a few lifting straps for people who already use them.
  • Lockers in the changing alcove, emptied each night. Bring a lock or ask for one at the desk.
  • Two showers with basic wash, and hooks that will take a work shirt.
  • A filtered water point by the entrance desk.

House rules

  1. Book the slot you will use. The room is small. A phantom booking keeps someone else at the office.
  2. Arrive in time to start the warm-up with the group. If you are more than ten minutes late for a group, we will fold you in when it is safe, not in the middle of a loaded set.
  3. Put the kit back where you found it. Collars on, plates in the trees, dumbbells in pairs. The next hour should not have to hunt.
  4. Phones stay in the bag unless you are on call for a child or a dependant. Film a lift only if a coach has asked for it.
  5. Guests watch from the bench by the door, and only if we have agreed ahead of time. The floor is not a viewing gallery during a group.
